Brannon/Haddock Set New 330 Record at Roxboro
by Gina Herndon August 25, 2008
The team of driver Alex Brannon, team owner/dad Lance Brannon (both of Huntsville, AL) and tuner Lynn "Choo Choo" Haddock (Chattanooga, TN) set a new national Mychron Top Guns 330 record at Roxboro Dragway this past Saturday.
After running a 4.220 in a shake-down run (which doesn't count for record purposes), the Brannon/Haddock team set the new record in 2nd round qualifying, running a 4.225. Their effort broke the old national record by one thousandth of a second.
Previous record holder T.J. Tindle also set his record at Roxboro.
Congratulations to Alex Brannon, Lynn Haddock, and Lance Brannon for their outstanding effort.
Coming into the final race of the season at Numidia, PA, the Mychron Top Gun Mychron Top Gun Outlaw 330 points stand at:
- Ryan Medlar 265
- Alex Brannon 264
- Megan Roberson 252

Only 10, Lodi junior dragster burning up the strip By Richard Banas II News-Sentinel Staff Writer Updated: Friday, August 15, 2008 2:34 PM PDT Comments (78 comment(s))
Garrett Easley has five years left before he can get his driver's permit. Yet, he is already the fastest junior dragster racer in Lodi.
The 10-year old Easley received a medallion for competing in the National Junior Dragster finals in Denver, Colo., in late July.
In the preliminaries, he qualified for the semifinals out of 54 racers but was eliminated in the third round after posting his best time of 12.90 seconds and hitting a top speed of 52 mph.
There's no question that the 4-foot-8, 70-pound Easley loves strapping himself into the roll cage of his 278-pound dragster and hurtling himself down an 1/8 mile drag strip at high speeds.
"I think it's pretty awesome not to be old enough to have a driver's license and yet still get to drive a dragster at 50 miles per hour," Easley said from his Lodi home this week.
Easley's fascination with speed began two years ago when Paul Easley, Garrett's father and a racing aficionado, took Garrett to look at a junior dragster that the neighbor of a friend had for sale. They didn't buy it, but they were smitten by the drag racing bug.
The Easleys then started looking around for the right car and found one on the East Coast and had it shipped it to Lodi. While most junior dragsters are made with aluminum and fiberglass, the younger Easley's 1989 dragster is entirely metal and is likely the oldest car racing on the West Coast.

All in the family Dragster racing turns into a Miller family event
By Caleb Regan
August 14, 2008
Blaine and Ashley Miller don’t remember going to the races for the first time.
The reason for that demonstrates how ingrained racing is in the Miller family.
“They were two months old when they first went to the races,” their father Kevin said. “They’ve grown up with it all their lives.”
The seeds that were sown at that time now lead to a family-wide involvement in the sport for the Eudora family of four.
Kevin began racing 22 years ago. In fact, the car he bought in high school, a 1975 Chevy Nova, is the car he races at events today. Then when Blaine reached age 7, he wanted a piece of the action. Dad responded by purchasing the necessary parts and, along with Blaine, constructed a junior dragster from the ground up.
A 9-year-old Blaine will bump up into the next age bracket a year from now, and 7-year-old sister Ashley will man the cockpit of the junior dragster.
Kevin and Blaine then will build a newer, faster dragster for Blaine, and the racing threesome will compete at events in Topeka together.
So far during the summer of 2008, Blaine and Kevin both have two first-place finishes. The mirrored success ends there, though, as Blaine has racked up two runner-up finishes while Kevin has one.
With 1,154 points Blaine is second out of four competitors in points for his division — class C of a National Hot Rod Association junior drag racing league, which consists of 8-and 9-year-olds. Samantha Little, leads Blaine by three points.
If he has anything to say about it, that won’t be where he is in the standings when the season concludes.
“Winning,” Blaine said when asked about the best part of dragster racing.
